Emory Men's Tennis Prepares For Three Road Matches

The Emory University men's tennis team faces a busy stretch of action with three road matches on the docket.  On Tuesday (Apr. 11), the Eagles venture to the University of the South for a 2:00 pm match before packing its bags and heading to the nations' capitol where it will tangle with NCAA Division I foe Georgetown University on Thursday in a noon bout.  Emory wraps up the week Friday afternoon at Johns Hopkins starting at 1:00 pm.

Emory, which was ranked No. 1 in the Mar. 30 ITA Poll, sports a 10-4 won-lost ledger and last played on Apr. 2 when it topped No. 2-ranked Claremont-Mudd Scripps by a 7-2 margin.  Senior Aman Manji has recorded a 10-4 spring record (19-5 overall) and No. 1 singles while sophomore Jonathan Jemison stands 11-3 at the No. 2 spot.  Senior Josh Goodman has won his last six decisions, five of those at the No. 6 position, and starts the week with a dual ledger of 9-3 (12-4 overall).   In doubles, the tandem of junior Scott Rubinstein and sophomore James Spaulding claim an 8-6 effort at No. 1.

Sewanee, coached by John Shackleford, was ranked 18th in the D-III ranks in the latest ITA Poll and will host the Eagles with a 16-2 record.  The Tigers, the No. 5 team in the Atlantic South Region, have won their last eight outings and are coming off a 6-3 victory over Millsaps on Sunday.

Under the guidance of head coach Gordie Ernst, Georgetown stands 7-10 and has captured its last three matches, the latest being a 4-3 outcome over Temple last Friday.  Former Emory All-American and NCAA D-III singles champ Dillon Pottish is an assistant coach with the Hoyas.

Head Coach Chuck Willenborg and his Johns Hopkins crew are ranked 20th nationally. The Blue Jays suffered their first setback in eight decisions this spring, dropping a tight 5-4 verdict at No. 7-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Sunday.
