Emory Men's Tennis Upends Washington & Lee

The No. 1-ranked Emory men's tennis team closed out a five-match home swing with a Monday afternoon victory over Washington and Lee. The Eagles won for the sixth straight time and improved to 13-2  this spring following an 8-1 decision over the Generals Blue who slipped to 8-4.

After the Generals, took the first point of the match at No. 1 doubles, the No. 3 duo of junior Jonathan Jemison and freshman Hayden Cassone tied the score with an 8-5 triumph vs. Tye Loan and Michael Lukas. At second doubles, senior Max Renke and junior Adrian Bouchet gave the Eagles the lead for good following their 8-6 decision against Thomas Harmon and Mitchell Thomas, their 10th win in 13 outings this year.

The Eagles nailed down all six singles matches, five of which came in straight sets. Senior Andrew Harrington ran his win streak to 12 matches with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 while classmate Alex Josepher pocketed his sixth straight and 13th victory in 20 outings this year at the No. 2 post with a 7-6, 6-3 decision over Thomas.  Cassone, slotted in the No. 1 position, battled to a 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, triumph over Harry Shepard. Other winners included juniors Adrien Bouchet and James Spaulding at Nos. 3 & 6, respectively, and senior Scott Rubinstein at No. 5.

Emory returns to action on Friday, April 20, when it plays at No. 7 Amherst.
