Men's Tennis Closes Out Stag-Hen Invitational with Win over Amherst

Following two tough-luck defeats on Friday, the Emory University men's tennis team concluded the Stag-Hen Invitational Saturday with a convincing 8-1 victory over Amherst College in the seventh-place match.

The Eagles fell by 5-4 scores in the opening rounds of the tournament to Pomona-Pitzer and Bowdoin before bouncing back in the final match in Claremont, CA. Emory now stands 5-6 in the spring and will return to the courts next Saturday on the road against Sewanee.

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches before taking five of six in singles during Saturday's win.

For doubles, Andrew Esses and Nolan Shah won on the top line, 8-7 (2,) while the Antonio Mora and Samuel Dean combo were 8-5 winners at the second position. Sahil Raina and Ryan Glanville rounded out the wins as they 8-4 victors on court three.

In singles, all five wins were of the straight set variety and came from the two through six positions. Esses and graduate student Santiago Suarez were identical 6-4, 6-2 winners at two and five while Brandon Cohen was an emphatic 6-0, 6-1 winner at the sixth spot. Shah picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles and on court four Sujay Sharma took care of business 6-2, 7-5.
