Andrew Esses & Nolan Shah Rally to Advance to NCAA Doubles Semifinals

The Emory University men's tennis doubles team of senior Andrew Esses and sophomore Nolan Shah advanced to play another day following their three-set win in the national quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL.

Esses and Shah advance to play on Championship Sunday as they rallied to defeat Trinity's Hao Nguyen/Christian Settles 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. The Eagles duo found themselves in a 4-1 hole in the third set before they buckled down to break serve and win the final four games to move on to the final four. It is the first time the Eagles will have a team in the doubles semifinals since 2018.

With the win, Esses and Shah will take on WashU's Daniel Li/Abhi Ramireddy in the semifinals tomorrow following the conclusion of the singles championship matches. Li/Ramireddy knocked off the No. 1 seed of Christian Alshon/Derek Hsieh from Chicago in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (2). This will be the second meeting this year between the Emory and WashU tandems with Esses/Shah winning the previous affair 8-6 in the UAA Third Place match.
