Men's Tennis Wins Sixth Straight; Downs MIT 5-4

The Emory University men's tennis team earned its sixth straight victory Sunday afternoon, taking down No. 31 ranked MIT on the WoodPEC indoor courts in Atlanta.

With the win, the No. 8 ranked Eagles improve to 13-2 including a perfect 7-0 record at home while the Engineers drop their eighth match of the season.

Emory led off the match by taking points at the top two doubles positions. Graduate student Charlie James and junior Ryan Glanville continued to excel at the No. 1 spot, winning their 20th match of the season and moved to 14-1 in the spring with an 8-6 decision. Senior Andrew Esses and freshman John Lasanajak teamed up for the first time this season and earned an 8-1 result on court two.

In singles action, James scored a straight set win on court three (6-2, 6-1) while sophomore Emilio Van Cotthem was a three-set winner on court four (3-6, 6-1, 6-1). However, MIT picked wins on courts two, five and six to force the decisive point to come via court one.

Esses dropped the first set 2-6 to his counterpart but was able to rally, securing wins of 6-4 and 7-6 (8) in the next two sets to earn the clinching point.

The Eagles look to continue their winning ways the next time they step on the courts which will be next Sunday, April 2 at home against NAIA powerhouse Georgia Gwinnett College.
