Kamenev Advances to ITA Cup Singles Finals; Kamenev and Shah Fall in Doubles Title Match

Emory men's tennis' sophomore Dean Kamenev and senior Nolan Shah continued ITA Cup play on Saturday with a couple of semifinal matches. Kamenev won his semifinals match in the singles draw to advance to the finals of the ITA Cup. The ITA South Regional Champion duo of Shah and Kamenev also advanced, defeating their opponents in three sets, before falling in the Division III title match.

Kamenev continued dominating the singles draw, still yet to drop a set in the ITA Cup despite playing two top-four ranked opponents. He defeated the No. 1 seed in the opening round and was matched up with the No. 4 seed, Williams College's Matthew Kandel, on Saturday. Kamenev tackled yet another ranked opponent, sweeping Kandel in two sets (7-5, 7-5).

In his first ITA Cup appearance, Kamenev will play for the title against No. 2 seeded Jordan Theron from Sewanee. Theron and Kamenev met in the ITA South Regional Singles Championship less than a month ago, where Kamenev fell just short in two sets (6-7, 4-6). The sophomore will get a second shot against one of the nation's top-ranked players on Sunday morning.

After taking some time to regroup after his big win, Kamenev teamed up with Shah for their doubles match. Matched up with the No. 3 seed, Shah and Kamenev won in three sets (6-4, 7-6, 10-7). The duo was then pitted in a rematch of the ITA South Regional and fell to Sewanee's Theron and Quinn Wicklund in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Kamenev will start the day tomorrow for the Eagles at 9:00 AM in the Singles Championship to wrap up comeptition in Rome, Georgia.
