Dean Kamenev Drops Opening Round Match at NCAA Singles Championships

Emory University men's tennis sophomore Dean Kamenev represented the Eagles at the NCAA Singles Championships with opening round play getting underway Sunday morning in St. Louis, Missouri at the Dwight Davis Memorial Tennis Center.

In his first round matchup, Kamenev battled RPI's Aidan Drover-Mattinen and came out on the other side of a 6-0, 7-6 (3) decision. Kamenev staved off elimination down 5-3 in the second set, picking up a break and holding service to even the set at 5-5. Both players held serve to head into the tiebreak where Drove-Mattinen then won six straight points after trailing 2-0 to win 7-3.

With the defeat, Kamenev sees his sophomore campaign come to a close with a 16-14 overall record in singles.
