Korn & Hoberman Selected as First UAA Outdoor Athletes of the Week

Emory University junior Electra Korn and sophomore Maxwell Hoberman were chosen as the first University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for the 2014 Outdoor Track and Field season.

Korn recorded a personal-best time in the 400-meter hurdles at the Emory Invitational last weekend, winning the event with a time of 1:03.74, over a second better than her previous career-best mark.  The time was also the third-fastest time by a Division III athlete so far this season.  Korn contributed 10 points to the team total, helping the Emory finish fifth out of 25 teams at the meet.

Hoberman scored in three events during the Emory Invitational, including a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a career-best time of 49.31 seconds, a seven-tenths of a second improvement on his previous personal-best mark, and the sixth-fastest time in Division III this season.  He later ran the anchor leg of the Eagles' 4x400-meter relay team, which won the event with a time of 3:19.50, the fifth-fastest time in Division III.  Hoberman rounded out the meet as the anchor leg of the Eagles' 4x100-meter relay team, which finished fourth in a time of 42.83 seconds, ranking 18th among NCAA Division III relays in 2014.  He accounted for 11.75 of the Eagles' 73 points at the meet, helping the Emory men to a third-place finish out of 23 squads.

This was the third conference athlete of the week honor of Hoberman's career, and his second of the 2013-14 year.  It was the first UAA weekly honor of the season for Korn, and the third overall of her career as well.

The Eagles will be back in action this weekend, hosting their second and final home outdoor meet of the season, the Emory Classic, on Friday, March 28th and Saturday, March 29th.
