Track & Field Open Spring Semester with UAB Vulcan Invitational

The Emory University Track and Field teams opened the spring semester on Saturday afternoon, sending a group of athletes to the Birmingham Crossplex to compete in the Vulcan Invitational hosted by UAB. There was no team scoring at the meet.

The Eagles were one of the couple Division III programs in attendance at the meet as the field featured primarily Division I athletes from UAB, Tennessee, Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Georgia State, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Mercer, Mississippi State, North Carolina A&T, Savannah State, Southern, Southern Miss as well as student-athletes from the other NCAA ranks.

On the men’s side, senior Benjamin Rogin paced the Eagles in a pair of events, turning in times of 8.62 in the 60m Hurdles and 23.70 in the 200m Dash. Freshman Zion Kidd posted marks of 7.34 in the 60m Dash and 5.03m in the long jump in his first collegiate meet while classmate Liam Fost won his section in the 400m Dash with a time of 50.82, finishing 26th overall. Junior Zachary Lembersky rounded out the top Eagle performers with an 11.83m distance in the weight throw.

For the women, Emory saw a trio a runners win sections in the 400m Dash led by senior Erica Goldman and her time of 59.10 which topped all non-Division I performers. Sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard and junior Radhika Shah added section wins in the event with times of 59.64 and 1:03.85, respectively.

Goldman also earned a section win in the 200m Dash with a time 26.91, followed by classmate Julia Leventhal and her time of 27.24. Freshman Ana Sofia Beltran clocked in a time of 10.83 to lead the Eagles in the 60m Hurdles while fellow freshman Rebekah Bondi led the Eagles in both the 60m Dash (8.07) and long jump (4.98m) while classmate Darby Rosenberger highlighted Emory in the triple jump event (10.34m).

The Eagles will make a return trip to the Birmingham Crossplex next Sunday, January 21st, for the Emory Crossplex Invitational.
