Emory Men's Track & Field Sets Nine Personal-Records at JDL Flat is Fast Meet

The Emory University men's track & field team travelled to Winston-Salem, NC for the JDL Flat is Fast Meet Saturday. The competition was held at the JDL Fast Track and did not feature team scoring, but saw several Eagles enjoy setting personal-records.

The distance runners had a strong day, ranking first through fifth in the 3000m Run and claiming the top-two spots in the 1 Mile Run. Junior John Cox paced his teammates in the 3000m Run, as he finished first out of 19 runners with a time of 8:46.55. Racing to the finish alongside Cox were sophomore Spencer Moore (8:46.90) and Egan Kattenberg, who set a personal-record after clocking a 8:46.96. Junior Matt Dillon (8:48.58) and Brett Lucas (8:54.09) each came up with their best efforts to date and crossed shortly after.

In the mile, Freshman Andrew Pahnke edged junior Jacob Hedgepeth for first. The pair produced times of 4:25.32 and 4:27.29, respectively. Sophomores Liam McGuire (4:28.61), Jon Marcus (4:30.26), and Andy Shew (4:33.51) filed in fourth, fifth, and sixth. Senior Andrew Kliewer ran his fastest 5K of the campaign, doing it in 16:09.60 to take second-place. Freshman Neil Mosca (16:14.55) and senior Bobby Wilson (16:20.07) followed in third and fourth. Freshman Justin Pecore ended his 800m race in 2:03.40, which was good enough for fifth-place out of 16 competitors. Senior Alex Rand broke through the line after 52.56 in the 400m, finding himself in 11th-place out of 33 runners.

Freshman sprinter Tommy Davis established a personal-record in the preliminaries of the 60m (7.20), but just missed out on the chance to race in the final, as he placed in ninth. The 60m hurdles saw sophomore Lucas Werner (9.01) finish in 10th-place, while freshman Ryan Ryu (9.36, 16th-place) and sophomore Graham Scott (9.59, 19th-place) crossed just after. Davis (24.21, 14th) and Scott (24.63, 20th-place) also appeared in the 200m. Scott's time of 24.63 was a season-best. The 4x400m relay team of junior Liam Fost, Werner, senior Fernando Cardozo, and Rand combined for a 3:37.36 effort.

Emory was led in the field events by freshman Patrick Osborne. Osborne cleared 4.25m in the pole vault, his highest mark to date, to tie for second-place. Yuri Brunner (3.50m, 11th-place) also participated in the pole vault. In the shotput, Wheeler Wilson's final throw measured out to 13.76m to take third-place. Patrick Crockett (13.21m, fourth-place) and Michael Tiffin (11.91m, 11th-place) both tossed the shot personal-best distances. Tiffin also produced a career-best mark in the weight throw (12.28m, sixth-place), which was slightly better than Wheeler's distance of 11.92m (seventh-place). The jumps saw sophomore Ben Kronman take 16th-place in the long jump (5.93m), while Ryu earned ninth-place in the triple jump (12.41).

The Eagles' next competition, the Carolina Challenge, is slated for January 31st. The event will span across two days and will be hosted by the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
