Track & Field Closes Out Regular Season with Home Final Qualifier

The Emory University track & field teams hosted its Final Qualifier meet Wednesday afternoon on the final day of competition for the 2021 regular season.

For the women, the Eagles saw a pair of personal best times turned in at the meet as Rebekah Bondi ran a PR in the prelims of the 100m Dash, clocking in at 12.02 which moved her into a tie for seventh in the country as of Wednesday evening, and in the 400m Hurdles, Claire Evans posted a new PR with her time of 1:04.38 which moved her to 24th nationally.

On the men’s side, Thomas Davis registered a pair of personal best times as he led the Eagles in both the 100m and 200m Dashes. First, Davis went sub-11 seconds for the first time in his career as he clocked in at 10.91 before he ran a 21.85 in the 200m. Jacob Hedgepeth added a PR as he paced the team in the 1500m Run, running a time of 3:52.41 to move into the 25th spot among Division III runners.

Additional top finishers on the women’s team featured Lauren Musachia in the high jump (1.43m), Isabel Saridakis in the pole vault (3.70m), Taylor Robinson in the javelin (36.64m), Alex Devaux in the hammer (46.10m), Bondi in the long jump (5.59m), Hope Jackson in the discus (40.00m), Laura Sheckter in the shot put (12.91m), Annika Urban in the 1500m Run (4:50.52), Jessica Barbarosh in the 200m (26.08) and Shannon Marsh in the 10,000m Run (39:25.32).

The Eagles also competed in both relay events on the evening, turning in a time of 47.82 from Barbarosh, Evans, Bondi and Michelle Rosenblum in the 4x100 and 3:59.71 in the 4x400m from Hannah Lansberry, Evans, Rosenblum and Bondi.

Other notable top finishers for the men were Brent Henshey in the high jump (1.93m), Chris Jernigan in the javelin (44.98m), Kenya Sei in the hammer (52.03m), JonCarlo Migaly in the long jump (6.74m), Michael Tiffin in the discus (38.76m), Spencer Watry in the 800m Run (1:55.80), Liam Fost in the 400m Run (48.95), Spencer Moore in the 3000m Steeplechase (9:25.23) and Jack Whetstone in the 5000m Run (14:36.33).

The meet served as the last chance to qualify for nationals which will begin next Thursday, May 27th in Greensboro, NC. Selections to the field will be announced on Friday, May 21st.
