Brandstadter Earns All-American Status; Eagles Show Out on Day One of NCAA Championships

The Emory University indoor track & field team showed out during the first day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Birmingham, AL garnering one All-American selection with one day of competition remaining. 

Freshman Henry Brandstadter became the Eagles first All-American of the indoor season as he reached a distance of 7.10m in the long jump to place eighth in the event. He becomes the second All-America for the program in the history of the indoor event.

Senior Annika Urban qualified for the final in the one mile run after crossing the finish line in 4:52.45 which was the second fastest time in the preliminaries. Urban looks to become the first individual national champion in any event for the women when competes in the one mile run final at 4:10 PM tomorrow. 

Sophomore Marcus Cheema finished just outside of qualfying for the finals as he turned in a 10th place at the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:51.87. Cheema's time established a new program record, beating out the previous record set by teammate Spencer Watry last season. Watry also competed at this year's championships finishing just behind Cheema with a time of 1:52.88 to finish in 13th place.  

For the women, junior Libby Ranocha competed in the 800m preliminaries finishing with the 11th best time after crossing the finish line in a time of 2:12.65. Sophomore Dashiel Tao Harris finished in 17th place with a time of 58.22 seconds in the 400m dash preliminaries. 

The Eagles are back in action for the final day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships with Urban the lone Eagle in competition as she is set to compete in the one mile run final at 4:10 PM and the 3,000m run final at 5:55 PM at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
