Track & Field Crushing the Competition at Emory Thrills in the Hills

The Emory University track & field team spent their Friday afternoon competing in the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open where both the men and women lead the field through one day of competition in Atlanta. 

With nine events having been scored thus far, the men lead the field of 22 teams having scored 48 points while Montevallo (34 points) and Trine (32.5 points) hold down the second and third positions. The women, also with nine events having been scored, have registered 52.5 points to lead the field with Montevallo (41 points) and Colby (35 points) rounding out the podium through one day of competition. 

Sophomore Jackson Price continued to shine for the Eagles on Friday as he recorded a time of 21.30 seconds in the 200m dash to win the event. Price's time of 21.30 stands as both the second fastest time in program history and the second fastest time in Division III this season. Senior Spencer Moore recorded a win in the 1,500m run invite as he recorded a time of 3:55.30, the fifth fastest time in the nation according to TFRRS. Junior Spencer Watry finished just behind Moore, crossing the finish line in a time of 3:55.99 to finish in second with the seventh fastest time in Division III. Seniors Brett Lucas (15:10.42) and Andrew Pahnke (15:15.57) finished back-to-back in the 5,000m run as they placed first and second, respectively in the event. 

On the field for the men, junior Kenya Sei showed out in the hammer throw with a recorded distance of 52.94m which placed him third at the meet. Sei continues to excel in the hammer throw this season, landing in the top ten distances in program history for the second time this season, as his distance on Friday landed him with the second best distance for the Eagles and the second best distance in Division III this season. Freshman Henry Brandstadter recorded the 24th best height in the nation in the high jump as he logged a height of 1.85m on Friday afternoon. 

On the track for the women, sophomore Audrey Johnson notched the fastest time in Division III this season when she registered a time of 25.03 seconds in the 200m dash. Sophomore Dashiel Tao Harris finished narrowly behind Johnson as her time of 25.16 seconds stands as the third best time in the country. Sophomore Savannah Haushalter recorded a time of 12:02.56 in the 3,000m steeplechase which landed her in the top-12 times in the event so far this season. Competing in the 1,500m run invite, sophomore Liesl Scherrer placed third in the event after logging a time of 4:52.43. 

On the field for the women, graduate student Nyjah Willis won the hammer throw as she launched a distance of 46.86m, the seventh best distance in Division III this season. Sophomore Dana Catalano, participating in the javelin throw, landed a distance of 37.65m to finish in second place at the meet in top-ten in the Division this season. 

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow for the second and final day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open being hosted on Emory's campus.
