Track & Field Turn in Stellar Performance at South Wesleyan GottaRun Invite

The Emory University track & field team traveled to Central, South Carolina on Saturday to take part in the Southern Wesleyan GottaRun Invite. 

Competing on the track for the men, sophomore Jackson Price continued to shine as he turned in a time of 21.15 seconds in the 200m dash to finish second at the meet. Price's time is the second fastest in program history and the fourth fastest in the nation so far this season. Junior Dawit Dean showed out in the 400m dash winning the event as he logged a time of 48.94 seconds, marking the 13th fastest time in Division III this year. Price also competed in the 400m dash where he placed fourth after registering a time of 49.44 seconds. Sophomore Marcus Cheema also turned in an event win, recording a time of 4:03.43 to win the 1,500m run.

Competing on the field for the men, junior Kenya Sei continued on his blistering rate as he took home gold in the hammer throw notching a distance of 52.65m, marking the fourth farthest distance in program history. Senior Michael Tiffin also performed well in the hammer throw as he launched a distance of 47.14m which was good for third place. Sei also competed in the discus throw where he logged a distance of 38.85m to place fifth in the event. Freshman Henry Brandstadter returned to the field this weekend in the high jump where he registered a height of 1.90m to win the event and finish with the 29th best height of the season in Division III. 

Competing on the track for the women, the 4x100m relay team of sophomore Kaya Binetti, sophomore Dashiel Tao Harris, junior Clementine Bodus and sophomore Audrey Johnson turned in a second place finish after crossing the finish line in a time of 47.91 seconds. The relay team's time of 47.91 stands as the seventh fastest in Division III thus far this season. Bodus also competed in the 400m hurdles where she notched a time of 1:09.67 for a bronze medal podium finish. Johnson continued her day in the short distances, registering a time of 12.23 seconds for a seventh place finish in the 100m dash. Senior Shana Fitzmaurice won the 1,500m run after logging a time of 4:59.27 while freshman Katherine Kennedy finished just behind in second place with a time of 5:02.67.

On the field for the women, Johnson continued to perform as she took on the triple jump where she placed second with a distance of 10.79m which stands as the 32nd best mark in Division III this season. Senior Ticia King recorded an event win in the pole vault as she reached a height of 3.15m to win the day. Sophomore Alexandra Feurer finished just behind King as she placed second in the pole vault reaching a height of 3.05m. Rounding out the day was sophomore Dana Catalano who finished in the silver medalist position in the javelin throw after notching a distance of 35.39m.

The Eagles are back in action for another regional meet next weekend as they travel to Cleveland, Tennessee for the Lee Flames Invitational set to take place on Friday and Saturday.
