Men's Track & Field Place Third at UAA Championships

For the second consecutive year, the Emory University men's track & field team finished on the podium at the UAA Outdoor Championships, this time finishing in third place at the Chicago meet.

The Eagles tallied 149 points, missing out on first place by a meager 22.50 points, as they registered eight All-UAA performances on Sunday including five individual UAA titles. Finishing in first place at the meet was No. 15 ranked Carnegie Mellon who recorded 171.50 points while WashU landed in the silver medalist position with 165.50 points.

Sophomore Jackson Price earned three individual All-UAA titles in what will go down as a historic Sunday for the outstanding second-year. Price won the 200m dash for the second consecutive year as he sped to a time of 21.63 seconds. Price then won the 100m dash, recording the fourth fastest time in program history when he crossed the finish line in a time of 10.69 seconds. Price was also part of the conference-winning 4x100 relay team for the second consecutive year along with sophomore Sam Ryba, senior Thomas Davis and freshman Henry Brandstadter who tied for the eighth best time in program history by virtue of their 41.34 second mark at the meet.

Junior Dawit Dean continues to perform at a high level earning his first ever individual UAA outdoor title as he won the 400m dash with a time of 48.43 seconds. On the field, junior Kenya Sei earned his first ever UAA individual title as he launched a distance of 44.13m in the discus throw to pace the field.

The 4x400 relay team of Dean, Davis, freshman Bryce Wurster and Price earned All-UAA acclaim as a result of a second place finish with a time of 3:18.54. The Eagles other All-UAA performers came on the field where Brandstadter placed second with a height of 1.94m in the high jump after a jump-off for the individual title. Freshman Simon Stumbris was the final All-UAA performer for the Eagles as he turned in a third place result in the triple jump with a distance of 13.81m.

On top of their UAA individual title in the 4x100 relay, Ryba (22.47) and Davis (22.89) both also competed in the 200m dash where they placed fourth and eight, respectively. Brandstadter also performed well as an individual on the track placing eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.14m. Competing alongside Dean in the 400m dash, sophomore Tristan Moore (50.53) and Wurster (50.66) crossed the finish line in fifth and seventh place, respectively.

As they have done so often this season, junior Spencer Watry and sophomore Marcus Cheema finished back-to-back in the 800m run finishing in fifth and sixth as they recorded times of 1:53.24 and 1:54.31, respectively. The final scorers on the track for the Eagles were sophomore Jack Petkash (3:55.54) and junior Scott Masterson (3:57.23) who finished in sixth and eighth place, respectively in the 1,500m run.

The only scorer in the field events outside of the All-UAA performers was sophomore John Zhai who finished just outside of All-UAA standing in the triple jump as he finished in fourth place with a distance of 13.16m.

The Eagles will take nearly a month off before returning for their final regular season meet of the season on May 17th when they play host to the Emory Final Qualifier.
