Spencer Moore Selected to CSC Academic All-America First Team

Emory University senior Spencer Moore was honored by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) organization Thursday by being chosen as a member of the Academic All-America First Team.

This is the second time Moore has earned a spot on the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America team and is the only Eagle to hold the honor after earning Third Team recognition last season.

The Eagles continue to set records with Moore becoming the 15th student-athlete to be selected as a CSC Academic All-American this academic calendar, the most in a single season in Emory Athletics history. His selection brings the total to 213 Academic All-Americans in Emory history.

Moore began the cross country season with his first ever collegiate meet win with a time of 15:32.32 and became the first Eagle to win a meet since 2019. He finished right behind teammate Brett Lucas at the Julius Johnson registering a time of 25:27. Moore took home a 16th place finish at the Paul Short Run and ran a 24:27 which established the new program record for the fastest 8k time. He ran a personal best time of 24:22.1 at the UAB Blazer Classic eclipsing his program record mark of 24:27 he ran two weeks prior. He registered a time of 24:49.5 to come in third at the UAA Championships marking the best finish at the competition for the Eagles since 2017. After taking home a fourth place finish at the NCAA South Regional, Moore took home a 54th place finish clocking in at 25:45.8.

During the indoor season, Moore took home a first place finish in the 3000m at the Emory CrossPlex Showdown which marked a new personal best and the fifth best time in program history. He had one of the best days of his career at the Carolina Challenge running a mile time of 4:09.86 marking a personal best and a new program record. Returning to the Carolina Challenge a few weeks later, Moore broke the program record in the one mile run finishing with a time of 4:09.07, good for seventh in the nation this season at the time. He set the third program record at the BU Hemery Valentine in the 3000m crossing the finish line in 8:16.40.

Moore started the outdoor season continuing to build on his stellar career as he won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:14.59. At the time, his time stood as the seventh fastest time in program history and the fastest time in the nation in the early part of the season. Continuing his dominating season at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open, Moore recorded a win in the 1500m run recording a time of 3:55.30, the fifth fastest time in the nation at the time according to TFRRS. He registered the third fastest time in program history in the steeplechase with a time of 9:06.53, which also stood as the fourth fastest time in DIII this season at the time.

Alongside Moore, teammates Marcus Cheema, Dawit Dean, Lucas and Spencer Watry were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team earlier this spring and proceeded to be placed on the All-America ballot for voting. CSC Academic All-America Teams are nominated and voted on by College Sports Communicators and Sports Information Directors across all Division III institutions.

The CSC Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key member of their respective teams, maintain a 3.50 grade point average, be of sophomore standing or higher, and have attended their current institutions for at least one year.
