Eagles See Three All-Americans During Day One of NCAA Indoor Championships

The Emory University indoor track and field program showed out during the first day of the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia garnering three All-America finishes with one day of competition remaining.

Sophomore Henry Brandstadter became the Eagles first All-American of the indoor season with a distance of 7.34m in the long jump to place as the national runner-up in the event. After earning All-America status last season in the event, his selection is just the third in the history of the event. His second place finish is also the best in team history in the event.

Graduate student Nikki Boon put an exclamation point on her indoor season taking the national runner-up position with 3763 points breaking the program record and becoming the first Eagle to earn All-America recognition in the event.

Senior Libby Ranocha also competed on the track for the women finishing ninth in the 800m running a 2:11.38 while junior Audrey Johnson finished 17th in the 200m with a time of 25.17.

Senior Kenya Sei competed in the weight throw for the Eagles finishing 17th with a distance of 17.61m.

In the relays, the men's distance medley relay group of seniors Dawit Dean and Spencer Watry, junior Marcus Cheema and freshman Graham Greene took home third place with a school record time of 9:50.10 after coming from behind in the last few laps to earn All-America status. The women's DMR group of graduate student Brigid Hanley, senior Lily Taylor, junior Dashiel Tao Harris and sophomore Madison Tiaffay finished just outside of All-America ranks finishing ninth running an 11:43.04.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 9 with junior Caroline Hansen competing in the triple jump at 2:30 PM and Hanley running in the 3000m at 5:40 PM.
