Men’s Track and Field Finishes First at Emory Spring Break Classic; Women Take Third

The Emory University outdoor track and field program had a strong finish to the annual Emory Spring Break Classic in Atlanta, Georgia hosted by Morehouse College.

The men's program took home first place with 102 points while Reinhardt finished second with 98.50 points. The Hope men took bronze with 96.50 points. On the other side, the Hope women took home first place with 117.50 points followed by a second place finish from West Georgia with 105.50 points. The Emory women rounded out the top three taking bronze with 102 points.

Freshman Evan Tuckley started the day on the field for the men taking fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.15m. Sophomore Steven Ditelberg also saw a top-eight finish in the event with a mark of 4.00m. Senior Kenya Sei saw another day of competition taking third in the discus with a distance of 42.26m. Sophomore Simon Stumbris also scored points for the Eagles with a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.21m followed by a sixth place finish from freshman Christopher Summey in the javelin (46.70m).

On the track for the men, junior Caleb Bunch started things with a sixth place finish in the 100m qualifying round with a time of 11.11 seconds while sophomore Bryce Wurster also picked up points for the Eagles taking seventh in the 400m running a 49.75. Fellow junior Ben Zamler also saw competition on Saturday finishing seventh in the 800m with a 1:58.65 mark.

In relays for the men, senior Tristan Olpin, junior Jonathan Orelowitz and freshmen Ezra Shilling-Rabin and Olin Gilster took home a sixth place finish in the 4x800m relay (8:11.65). Two relay groups in the 4x100m for the Eagles took home top-three finishes with the first group running a 41.87 and the second group finished with a 42.36. Two more relay groups in the 4x400m saw top-eight finishes with the first group taking fifth (3:22.50) and the second group finishing eighth (3:27.18). 

On the field for the women, freshman Mable Mutumwa took a second place finish in the javelin with a 38.57m mark followed by a fifth place finish from graduate student Nikki Boon with a 35.53m mark. Freshman Hannah Riley had an impressive day in the pole vault with a 3.45m height for second place. Teammates Sammy Ramacher and Alex Feurer also had top-eight finishes in the event with a height of 3.00m.

Juniors Mina Leopold and Andrea McPherson started things on the track for the women in the 100m qualifying round taking seventh and eighth respectively. Senior Helena Kummings scored points for the women finishing sixth in the 1500m running a 5:15.74 while fellow senior Lily Taylor finished first in the 800m with a time of 2:13.72. Sophomore Madison Tiaffay also brought in points for Emory in the 800m with a time of 2:14.67. Senior Amaya Martin saw Emory's next first place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.17 seconds while freshman Emma Flowers saw a second place finish in the 3000m running a 10:58.07.

In relays for the women, the group of Boon and juniors Dashiel Tao Harris, Audrey Johnson and Kaya Binetti took first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 47.00 seconds. Binetti was also a part of the 4x400m relay that took sixth (4:04.41) with Leopold, Riley and freshman Annabelle Tanner.

The Eagles return to Morehouse College for the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet beginning Friday, March 22 with day two on Saturday, March 23.
