(Nov. 24) Phil Hagedorn became the third All-American in school history while leading Emory University to its second-best finish in school history at the NCAA Division III national championships. Hagedorn finished 13th out of 215 runners, the second-highest finish ever by an Eagle at the nationals. The senior's time of 25 minutes and 34 seconds for the 8,000-meter course is the seventh fastest by an Eagle at an NCAA national meet. Hagedorn also compiled the sixth-highest win total ever by an Eagle in a season with 1,090 wins. Emory, which finished 16th overall, was the highest finisher among the four University Athletic Association teams in the race.
(Nov. 17) Phil Hagedorn led Emory University to a win NCAA Division III South Region Championship, finishing first overall. Hagedorn finished ahead of 138 other runners from 20 schools. The senior's time of 26 minutes flat was 20 seconds better than the second place runner and the 12th fastest in school history at a regional championship meet. Hagedorn earned all-region honors for the fourth time, becoming the fourth eagle ever to earn all-region honors all four years. With the regional win, its fifth consecutive, Emory advances to the NCAA National Championships.
(Nov. 3) Phil Hagedorn became the third runner in Emory University history to make the all-conference team all four years by finishing eighth out of 77 runners at the University Athletic Association championships. This marked the fifth consecutive race in which Hagedorn has been the Eagles' top runner. The senior's time of 25 minutes and 43 seconds for the 8,000 meter course was 11 seconds faster than his time at the conference meet last year when he placed third overall. His time was also the eighth fastest in Eagles' history at the UAA championships. The Eagles, ranked 20th in the nation, finished fifth overall at the meet.
(Oct. 27) Phil Hagedorn ran his best time of the season to lead Emory University to a third-place finish at the Southeastern Classic. The senior captain's time of 25 minutes and 33 seconds for the 8,000-meter course is 13 seconds better than his previous season best time, set earlier in the year. Hagedorn finished 11th out of 203 runners. This is the fourth consecutive race that he has been the top finisher for Emory. Emory, which finished ahead of 23 other teams, is ranked 20th in the nation.
(Oct. 13) Jake Marren continued his season-long improvement at the NCAA pre-national meet in Indiana. The senior ran the second-fastest time of his career, 27 minutes and seven seconds, for the 8,000-meter course in a preview of the NCAA national meet. That time was 1:53 faster than his time at the NCAA national championships last year. Marren was the Eagles' No. 5 finisher and placed 32nd overall in a field of 152 competitors that included runners from the No. 2 and 16 ranked teams in the nation. He improved his season won-loss record to 423-92, good for an .821 winning percentage. Just one week earlier, Marren has established a new career-best time with 26:44 at the state championships. He has a season average time of 27:12 down from 28:59 last season. Emory, ranked No. 20 in the nation, placed third out of 16 teams.
(Oct. 6) Phil Hagedorn led Emory University to a second-place finish at the Georgia Collegiate Championships. He finished ninth among 116 non-NCAA Division I runners and was the top finisher among Division III runners with a time of 25 minutes and 46 seconds. He improved his time by more than a minute from this meet last year. Hagedorn recorded the fourth-fastest time ever for an Eagle at the state championships. He became only the second Emory runner ever to earn all-state honors for all four years.
(Sept. 22) Team captain Phil Hagedorn led Emory University to a second place finish at the Georgia State Invitational. Hagedorn, a three-time all-region runner, finished ninth out of 131 runners, including 22 from NCAA Division I schools. The senior's time of 26 minutes and nine seconds for the 8,000-meter course was 53 seconds faster than his time at the same meet last year. Emory is ranked 23rd in the national coaches poll.
(Sept. 8) Senior Paul Tufaro led Emory University to a first place finish at the University of the South (Tenn.) Invitational. This is the fourth time in his career that he has been the top finisher for the Eagles. Tufaro finished fifth overall out of 120 runners with a time of 26 minutes and 50 seconds in the 8000-meter course, 26 seconds faster than his time at the same meet last year. This is the eighth time the Eagles have won this meet since 1987. Emory is ranked 23rd in the national preseason coaches poll.
