2004 Athletes Of The Week

(Nov. 22) Emory University senior Andrew Podgurski finished 96th out of 215 runners at the NCAA Division III national championships. His time of 25 minutes and 57 seconds led the Eagles to a 21st-place finish out of 24 teams. This is the third meet this season Podgurski has run under 26 minutes for an 8000-meter race. He was the top finisher for the Eagles in all nine meets this season. His season winning percentage of .889 is a career best and the highest on the team.


(Nov. 15) Emory University team captain Andrew Podgurski finished third out of 143 runners at the NCAA Division III Regional Championship. He helped lead the Eagles to their sixth consecutive regional championship. His time of 26 minutes and 55 seconds earned him all-region honors for the fourth year. He is the fifth Eagle runner to earn all-region honors all four years. Podgurski has been the number one finisher for the Eagles in all eight meets this season. He will run in his final collegiate race at the NCAA Division III National Championships on November 20.


(Nov. 1) Andrew Podgurski was Emory University's top finisher at the University Athletic Association championships. Podgurski finished 13th out of 75 runners to earn a spot on the all-conference second team. This is the second all-conference honor in the senior's collegiate cross country career. He has been the team's top finisher in all seven races this season.


(Oct. 25) Emory University freshman Evan Goldberg finished first out of 42 runners at the Oglethorpe University Fall Classic. His victory helped lead the Eagles to a first-place finish out of five teams at the meet. His time of 27 minutes and 53 seconds is a season-best by more than 30 seconds. He is the third first-year Eagle runner to run under 28 minutes this season.


(Oct. 18) Emory University senior Jonathan High finished 24th out of 105 runners at the Winthrop Classic. He finished third for the Eagles in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 19 minutes and 7 seconds. High has finished among the top three runners for Emory in all six meets this season. He improved his won-loss record to 747-148 for the season. His win count of 747 wins is more than double the number of wins he had for the last three seasons combined.


(Oct. 11) Owen Farcy finished 35th out of 242 runners at the Furman Invitational. Farcy ran a time of 27 minutes and four seconds for the 8,000-meter race, his third-fastest time of the season. The time also marks a one minute and 18 second improvement on his previous best time for the course. Farcy improved his winning percentage to .886, good for second on the team. For the third time this season, the senior was the second finisher for the Eagles. Emory, which finished sixth out of 26 teams, improved its season record to 66-14.


(Oct. 4) Emory University team captain Andrew Podgurski finished second out of 216 runners at the NCAA Pre-National meet. He broke 26 minutes for the second consecutive meet, finishing with a time of 25 minutes and 47 seconds. He lost only to a returning All-American and beat another previous All-American by 11 seconds. He finished ahead of 20 runners from teams ranked in the top 20 nationally. Podgurski has finished as the top runner for the Eagles and among the top 10 runners overall in all four meets this season.


(Sept. 20) Emory University senior Andrew Podgurski finished as the top non-Division I runner at the Clemson Invitational. He was ninth overall out of 77 runners with a time of 25 minutes and 42 seconds. The time is a career best for Podgurski, who has been the top finisher for the Eagles in all three meets this season. Podgurski also has the best time in the South region this season, according to southregionrunning.com.


(Sept. 13) Emory University team captain Andrew Podgurski finished second out of 98 non-Division I runners at the Georgia State University Invitational. He was the top finisher among Division III runners.
His time of 26 minutes and 15 seconds is an 18-second improvement from his time in this meet last season. Podgurski has the fastest time in the South region this season, according to southregionrunning.com. The course for this race will be used again for the NCAA regional meet, where Podgurksi finished fourth last season.


(Sept. 7) For the first time in his career, Andrew Podgurski crossed the finish line as the No. 1 runner for Emory University. The senior placed fourth out of 163 runners at the season-opening University of the South (Tenn.) Invitational. He was timed in 27 minutes and seven seconds for the 8,000-meter course. Last season, Podgurski was an all-region and all-state honoree.
