2005 Men's Cross Country Season Recap

The Men's Cross Country Team, loaded with youth and inexperience, fought through a tough schedule to achieve unexpected success under head coach John Curtin.  The Eagles scored team titles at two meets, and ultimately finished an impressive third at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships. Despite being remarkably consistent, new heroes emerged weekly. Only seven runners appeared in Emory's top-five all season, but the Eagles finished in a different order in every single race.

Sophomore Bryan Forsyth was the top Emory finisher in four meets during the season, including the team's two titles at the Vanderbilt Invitational and Georgia State Invitational. He finished second overall at Vanderbilt, with a career best time of 25:42 for 8,000 meters. Overall, Forsyth posted three top-10 finishes on the season, often rubbing shoulders with NCAA Division I competition.

Freshman Vikram Srivastava led the Eagles at both the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships and the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships.  He was in Emory's top-five in all but one meet, and his times steadily improved throughout the season.  Srivastava placed 26th at the conference meet with a time of 26:34, and then placed 15th in the region with a season best time of 26:01. His best finish came in the Georgia State Invitational, where he placed fifth overall.

Rob Leventhal ran like the elder statesman that he was.  The junior was at his best when the competition was toughest, notably at the Division I-heavy Auburn Invitational and Vanderbilt Invitational. He led the squad at Auburn with his season fastest time of 25:42.
Freshman Isaac Zimmerman was one of the team's true warriors, finishing in Emory's top-five in every meet. He got better as the season progressed, saving his best performances for the championship meets. He finished 20th in the region and 32nd in the UAA.

Junior Kile Krol put in another workmanlike season, providing a steady effort all fall. At regionals, the season's final meet, Krol blazed to 19th place overall, with a time of 26:18. He ran his career-best 25:56 during the team victory at Vanderbilt.

Sophomores Jeff Roland and Josh Devlin were consistent contributors to the lineup. Roland posted an eighth place finish overall at Vanderbilt in a career best 26:09. Ultimately, he finished 42nd in the region. Devlin improved throughout the year to finish 34th at the regional meet in a season best 26:40.
