2007 Men's Cross Country Season Recap

A young and hard-working Emory men's cross country team peaked at the right time and earned the program's first appearance to the NCAA Championships since 2004.  The Eagles earned their championship after tying for first place out of 21 teams at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, its first regional crown since 2004.

At the NCAA Regionals, the Eagles of head coach John Curtin turned in a strong team showing with three runners finishing among the top 15 while all seven Emory entries earned all-region acclaim by virtue of posting a 35th-place finish or better. Pacing the pack was junior Vikram Srivastava who crossed the line in seventh place in the 170-runner field.  Aiding in the cause were sophomores Paul Winterhalter and Charlie Meade who came in ninth and 15th, respectively.  Senior Michael Rothbart and sophomore Tommy Fyffe rounded out the team's scorers with 22nd and 23rd-place efforts.

At the University Athletic Association Championships, Emory turned in a fourth-place performance (one point shy of third), its best finish since 2002.  Winterhalter was the team's top runner, crossing the line in 11th place and earning Second Team All-UAA recognition in the process.

Other notebale performances turned in by the team included a second-place performance out of 15 teams at Pre-Nationals (St. Olaf, MN), where the Eagles saw four runners finish among the top 24, and second-place showing out of 17 squads in the season opener at the Sewanee Invitational.
