The No. 16-ranked Emory University men's cross country team turned in an excellent performance at the 24th annual Griak Invitational on Saturday, posting a third-place finish out of 35 teams.

The Eagles finished with 113 points and finished behind No. 2-ranked UW-La Crosse's first-place total of 48 points and No. 8 UW-Platteville (81 pts.).  No. 18 UW-Oshkosh (172 pts.) and UW-Whitewater (175 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Emory had three runners among the top 20 finishers in the 370-runner field.  Senior Charlie Meade (Wellesley, MA) paced the Eagles' pack and crossed the finish line in third position with an 8K time of 25:42.  Tommy Fyffe (Cincinnati, OH) turned in a seventh-place effort (25:44) while classmate Paul Winterhalter (Ardmore, PA) clocked in at 26:23, good for 17th place.  Seniors Alex Robin (27:04, 41st place) and Greg Decker (27:07, 45th place) also made fine showings at the meet and closed out the team's scorers.

The top individual time was turned in by Zach Wilhelmy of UW-La Crosse who finished at 25:27.

Emory returns to action on Oct. 10 when it takes part in the Jacksonville State Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
