The Emory University men's cross country team put on an impressive
display at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships this
afternoon, easily capturing first place out of 24 teams. The
Eagles' first-place finish enables the team to earn an automatic
berth to next Saturday's NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
Today's performance marks the eighth time in the last 11 years that
Emory has brought home the Regional championship.
Emory, ranked 13th in the nation, outdistanced the
field, totaling 33 points. Lynchburg took home the runner-up
spot with 102 points while Trinity University finished third with
110 points. Mary Washington (136 pts.) and Virginia Wesleyan
(164 pts.) rounded out the top five.
The Eagles had four individuals bring home top-10 finishes led by
senior Charlie Meade whose time of 26:38 over the
8K course was good for third place in the 174-runner field.
Senior Tommy Fyffe registered a fourth-place
showing with an effort of 27:06. Seniors Alex
Robin (27:20) and Greg Decker (27:24)
notched sixth- and eighth-place finishes, respectively.
Paul Winterhalter rounded out the squad's scorers,
finishing 13th with a mark of 27:37. All of
Emory's scorers landed all-Region honors.
