The Emory University men's cross country team, ranked 11th in the
nation, brought home its second straight first-place meet finish,
claiming the top spot out of eight teams at the Quaker
Invitational. The Invitational was held in Greensboro, NC and
hosted by Guilford College.
Emory registered 35 points and were followed by Virginia Wesleyan's
51 points. Texas-Tyler finished the competition in third
place (69 pts.) while Roanoke was fourth (84 pts.)
Resting its top five runners, the Eagles still enjoyed a solid
overall record, placing five entries among the top 12 overall
finishers. Senior Barri Levinson paced the Emory contingent
with an 8K showing of 27:04, good for second place in the 68-runner
field. Sophomore Tim Halinski clocked in at 27:53, good for
fifth place. Junior Kevin Lanza was right behind with an
effort of 28:00 while junior Jon Usry (10th, 28:17) and
freshman Scott Jarvis (12th, 28:32) rounded out the
team's scorers.
Emory returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it competes at
the University Athletic Association Championships in Cleveland.
