The No. 18 Emory men's cross country team contended with rain,
mud and overall sloppy conditions at the UGA Invitational this
morning, recording a third-place finish out of six teams. The
Invitational was held at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
The Eagles totaled 69 points finishing behind Georgia's No. 1 mark
of 15 points. The North Avenue Trade School Track Club came
in second with 60 points. Morehouse finished fourth (128
pts.) while North Georgia (139 pts.) and Piedmont (156 pts.)
rounded out the field.
Emory, which sat out Tommy Fyffe, Paul Winterhalter, Charlie Meade
and Alex Robin, was paced by senior Greg Decker who covered the 8K
course in a time 28:04, good for 13th place out of 61
runners. Sophomore Tim Halinski checked in with a mark of
28:10, that ranked him 16th. Rounding out the team's scorers
were junior Kevin Lanza (28:44, 21st), freshman Stephen Ellwood
(28:46, 22nd) and junior Jon Usry (29:18, 29th).
Next up for Emory is next Saturday's Griak Invitational in
Minneapolis.
