Emory Cross Country Teams Compete At Louisville Classic

Emory Cross Country Teams Compete At Louisville Classic

In their first action since Sept, 11, the Emory men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the Greater Louisville Classic this Saturday (Oct. 2).  One of the premier collegiate competitions in the nation, the event will be held at the E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park in Louisville.  The state park will serve as the venue for the 2010 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championship and will be the site for this year’s NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship and the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Over 100 men’s and women’s teams will be taking to the course on Saturday.  The Emory women’s side will have teams competing in the Blue and Silver Races with those 5k competitions slated to start at 11:45 a.m., and 1:15 p.m., respectively. The Blue Race is scheduled to have 40 teams competing while the Silver Race will be a 32-team field. Some of the teams the Eagles will be competing against include the University of Detroit, University of Evansville, UAA rival Washington University, Illinois State, Austin Peay State University, Mercer University and Grand Valley State College.

As with the women’s side, the Emory men will be competing in the Blue Race (11:00 a.m.) and Silver Race (12:30 p.m.).  The 8k competitions will see the Eagles go up against the likes of Georgia Tech, Findlay College, Florida International, the University of Kentucky, Alabama-Huntsville and Morehead State University.  The Blue Race will see 39 teams taking part while the Silver Race will have 33 squads stepping to the line.

Both the Emory men and women are ranked No. 1 in the Division III Southeast Rankings while the women hold down the 33rd spot in the national polls.
