In their first action since Sept, 11, the Emory men’s and
women’s cross country teams will compete at the Greater
Louisville Classic this Saturday (Oct. 2). One of the premier
collegiate competitions in the nation, the event will be held at
the E.P. ‘Tom’ Sawyer State Park in Louisville.
The state park will serve as the venue for the 2010 NCAA Division I
Southeast Regional Championship and will be the site for this
year’s NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship and the
NCAA Division II National Championship.
Over 100 men’s and women’s teams will be taking to the
course on Saturday. The Emory women’s side will have
teams competing in the Blue and Silver Races with those 5k
competitions slated to start at 11:45 a.m., and 1:15 p.m.,
respectively. The Blue Race is scheduled to have 40 teams competing
while the Silver Race will be a 32-team field. Some of the teams
the Eagles will be competing against include the University of
Detroit, University of Evansville, UAA rival Washington University,
Illinois State, Austin Peay State University, Mercer University and
Grand Valley State College.
As with the women’s side, the Emory men will be competing in
the Blue Race (11:00 a.m.) and Silver Race (12:30 p.m.). The
8k competitions will see the Eagles go up against the likes of
Georgia Tech, Findlay College, Florida International, the
University of Kentucky, Alabama-Huntsville and Morehead State
University. The Blue Race will see 39 teams taking part while
the Silver Race will have 33 squads stepping to the line.
Both the Emory men and women are ranked No. 1 in the Division III
Southeast Rankings while the women hold down the 33rd
spot in the national polls.
