The Emory men's and women's cross country teams participated in
the 24th Annual University Athletic Association
Championships on Saturday. The Championships were held at Van
Cortland Park in New York.
The women's side, ranked 26th nationally, recorded a
fifth-place finish with 105 points. Capturing the top spot
was No. 16 Washington University with 48 points. No. 7
Chicago claimed runner-up honors with 61 points while No. 15 Case
Western took home third with 96 points.
Junior Tess Gallegos paced the Emory effort with a 6k time of
22:27, good for eighth place overall in the 76-runner field.
Senior Natalie Fenn was the second Eagle to cross the finish line
with her performance of 22:33.7, placing her 14th in the
field. By virtues of their finish, both Gallegos and Fenn
were Second Team All-UAA honorees. Rounding out the Emory
scorers were junior Sara Gelb (26th, 23:15), sophomore
Melanie Frank (27th, 23:17) and sophomore Calley Edwards
(30th, 23:23).
The men's squad finished eighth with 256 points. Earning the
title was No. 9-ranked Washington University with 42 points, while
defending champ and No. 7 NYU was second with 51 points.
Sophomore Stephen
Ellwood was the team's top finisher with an 8K showing of
27:02, 49th overall among the competitors. Senior
Kevin Lanza
was next on the list with his time of 27:19 ranking
61st.
Both the men's women's teams return to action on Saturday, November
13, when they compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional
Championships in Memphis, Tenn.
