Emory Cross Country To Compete At Viking Open -- Moriarty Named UAA Women's CC Co-Athlete Of The Week

The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams will be in action on Saturday (Oct. 13) when they compete at the Viking Open hosted by Berry College.  The men's 8K race begins at 8:45 am followed by the women's 6K competition at 9:30.  The races will be conducted at the Berry College Clara Bowl.

Approximately 19 women's and 16 men's teams from throughout the region will be represented on Saturday including squads from Division I members Georgia State and Tennessee Tech along with Division II program West Georgia.

Both of the Emory teams fared well at the Pre-Nationals Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana, last weekend.  The No. 23-ranked women's side posted an eighth-place finish out of 30 teams while the men's contingent came away with a seventh-place showing out of the same number of teams.  Sophomore Hannah Moriarty (Nashua, NH) was named as the University Athletic Association Cross Country Co-Athlete of the Week following her performance that saw her rank as the team's No. 1 runner with a personal-best 6K time of 23:27, good for 46th place out of 326 runners.

Junior Eddie Mulder (Pompano Beach, FL) continued his fine fall campaign for the men, crossing the finish line in 10th place out of 376 entries with a personal-best 8K mark of 25:48.  Freshman Lukas Mees (Marion, IA) distinguished himself as well, registering a 35th-place performance with an effort of 26:18.
