Men's Green Race
The Emory men’s cross country team claimed third place and
the women fourth at the Charlotte Invitational Saturday
morning.
Competing in the College Division of the gold race, the Emory
men’s squad, competing in a 16-team field, registered 96
points. Taking home the top spot was Division II member
Columbus State with 80 points, while Georgia Regents finished
runner-up with 82 points. Rounding out the top five were
Savannah Art and Design (145 pts.) and UNC-Pembroke (156
pts.). Senior Alex Fleischhacker led the Emory
contingent with a personal-best 8k time of 25:56, good for
10th place out of 115 competitors. Senior Eddie
Mulder was the next Eagle to cross the finish line with a mark of
26:28, placing him 18th on the scoresheet.
Freshman Michael McBane recorded a 22nd place effort,
clocking a time of 26:41, while senior Hank Ashforth (26:48) and
junior Tyler Cooke (26:49) rounded out the Eagles’
scorers. Emory was also represented in the event by freshmen
Michael Sisario (27:09, 30th) and Brandon Cromer (27:44,
49th).
In addition, there was a College Division Green Race conducted
with Emory topping a three-team field with 15 points. Emory
finished 1-2-3 out of 48 entries in the 8k, led by junior Patrick
Crews with a time of 27:12. Freshman Austin Hunt (27:21) was
second while classmate Jake Schlessinger (27:35) came in third.
Sophomore Andrew Drumm (27:56) and freshman Sam Cohen (28:07)
accounted for the rest of the Eagles’ scoring efforts,
registering fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively.
In a 17-team field, the women's side, ranked 33rd nationally in
Division III, totaled 127 points. Columbus State was first with 78
points with UNC-Pembroke close behind with 96 points. Senior
Emily Caesar came up with a big effort, churning out a
personal-best 6k performance of 22:32 that was good for the No. 9
position out of 117 runners. Junior Marissa Gogniat gave the
Eagles a solid effort with her time of 22:41 tying her career-best
outing while placing 11th in the field. Freshman
Michelle Kagei (23:41, 3th), junior Elise Viox (23:53) and freshman
Sophie Cemaj (24:07, 44th) rounded out the team’s
scoring.
In the Green Division race, the Emory women finished first out of
three squads with 17 points. Junior Ashley Stumvoll was the
team’s top finisher with a 6k mark of 23:35 that was good for
third overall out of 43 contestants. Classmate Shannon Palmer
was fourth, checking in with a 24:24.
Emory returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 5) when it competes at
the Greater Louisville Classic.
