The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams are
back in action on Saturday (Oct. 5) when they compete in the
12th annual Greater Louisville Classic. The meet
will be held at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park, the
site of the 2012 Division I Cross Country Championships.
A total of six collegiate races will be conducted with gold,
blue and silver races held for both men and women. The Emory
men’s side will be sending their top runners in the 8k Blue
Race that starts at 10:45 a.m., while the women’s 5k event is
slated for an 11:30 a.m. start. Approximately 44 schools will
be represented in the men’s competition while 51 institutions
will be hitting the course in the women’s race.
The men’s silver race is scheduled to commence at 1:00
p.m., and will be followed by the women’s silver meet at 1:45
p.m.
In their most recent outings, the Emory men claimed third place out
of 16 teams and the women fourth in a 17-team field at the
Charlotte Invitational last Saturday morning.
Senior Alex Fleischhacker led the Emory men’s squad with a personal-best 8k time of 25:56, good for 10th place out of 115 competitors. Senior Eddie Mulder was the next Eagle to cross the finish line with a mark of 26:28, placing him 18th on the scoresheet. For the women, senior Emily Caesar came up with a big effort, churning out a personal-best 6k performance of 22:32 that was good for the No. 9 position out of 117 runners. Junior Marissa Gogniat gave the Eagles a solid effort with her time of 22:41 tying her career-best outing while placing 11th in the field.
