The Emory men’s and women’s cross country
teams came through with fine performances on Saturday at the
Oberlin College Inter-Regional Rumble.
The men’s squad turned in a seventh-place effort out of 31
teams, finishing with 267 points. New York University took home the
top spot with 55 points while Geneseo State was runner-up with 93
points. Allegheny was third (106 pts.) while Rochester (168
pts.) and Case Western (182 pts.) rounded out the top five.
Senior Alex Fleischhacker was the Eagles’ No. 1
runner, clocking an 8K time of 26:01 that placed him
22nd out of 284 runners. Senior Eddie Mulder was
the next Eagle to cross the finish line, clocking a season-best
26:15 that was 30th overall. Junior Tyler Cooke
was third in the Emory pack and 41st overall with a
personal-best time of 26:25. Rounding out the team’s
scorers were Patrick Crews (26:55, 87th) and freshman
Michael McBane (27:00.4, 96th).
The women’s side came in 15th out of 34 teams, recording 354
points. NYU was first with 71 points while Geneseo State (118
pts.) and Carleton (121 pts.) were second and third,
respectively. Junior Tamara Surtees was the team’s
leading performer for the fourth time this season, posting a 6K
time of 22:28.6 that was good for 25th position out of
284 entries. Senior Emily Caesar was No. 2 among the
Eagles’ contingent and 66th overall with a showing
of 23:13.7. Junior Marissa Gogniat was the next Emory runner
to appear on the final sheet with her 23:27, ranking
79th in the field. Closing out the team’s
scorers were freshman Michelle Kagei (23:34, 85th) and
junior Ashley Stumvoll (24:00, 116th).
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, when they venture
to Pittsburgh to compete at the University Athletic Association
Championships.
