The Emory University men's and women's cross country teams
continue their seasons on Saturday (Sept. 27) when they compete at
the Gulf Coast Stampede. The event will be held at the
Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Florida.
The men’s 8K race will start at 7:30 am and will be
followed by the women’s 5K meet at 8:10 am.
In addition to Emory, other teams scheduled to compete include
Kennesaw State University, Harding University, host West Florida,
Auburn-Montgomery, Belhaven and Point University.
The women’s team heads into Saturday’s event ranked
No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region and 29th nationally
among D-III programs. In their last outing, the Eagles placed
first out of 17 teams in the Division II, III and NAIA race at the
Furman Classic (Sept. 13). The Eagles claimed three of the
top six individual finishes led by senior Tamara Surtees, who paced
the 152-runner field in a 6K time of 22:20 that represented her
second-fastest time.
The men’s side, ranked No. 3 in the South/Southeast Region,
is coming off a fourth-place out of 10 teams, at the Furman
Classic. Senior Alex Fleischhacker was the top Emory runner
with his 8K showing of 26:17 good for 16th out of
113 entries. Junior Lukas Mees was close behind with his
26:38 slotting him 18th.
