Emory Men's Cross Country Announces 2015 Award Winners

The Emory University men's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2015 season.

Senior Lukas Mees (Marion, IA) was named the Most Outstanding Performer for the third time in his career after turning in a solid campaign that saw him rank as the team's top finisher in all eight competitions.  Chosen as the University Athletic Association's Runner of the Week three times, Mees established four personal bests during year including an 8K time of 25:02 (10th all-time at Emory) at the league championships, good for the runner-up position, enabling him to garner First Team All-UAA acclaim, Emory's first-such honoree since 2009.  Mees was tabbed by the USTFCCCA as South/Southeast Region Athlete of the Year after winning the NCAA Regional Championships, the first Emory runner to earn that distinction since 2003.  Mees came through with first-place efforts at the Charlotte Invitational, topping the 107-runner field with an 8K time of 25:25, and the JSU Foothills Invitational.

Junior Michael Sisario (San Ramon, CA) was tabbed as the Most Improved Runner Award after emerging as a consistent contributor, scoring in seven of the team's eight competitions.  Sisario, who ranked as the squad's No. 2 runner in his last four races, established three personal bests during the year including a 25:32 at the AAE Invitational.  He earned All-South/Southeast Region acclaim after crossing the finish line second on the team and 19th overall out of 203 entries at the NCAA Region Championships.  He helped Emory to a second-place finish at the Charlotte Invitational with an overall 13th-place finish (third on the squad) out of 107 runners with a time of 26:20.  In addition, he was the Eagles' No. 2 scorer at both the UAA and the NCAA D-III Championships.

Junior Michael McBane (Chesterfield, VA) received the Coaches' Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration.  McBane, who was slowed by injuries his sophomore season, bounced back in strong fashion, figuring in the team's scoring in six of eight competitions. He ranked as the squad's No. 3 runner on four occasions, one of which came at the NCAA D-III Championships.  He brought home All- South/Southeast Region accolades after posting a 25th-place finish out of 203 runners at the NCAA Region Championships. He scored for Emory as the No. 4 runner at the UAA Championships after clocking a personal-best 26:02.

Freshman Bennett Shaw (San Jose, CA) was chosen as the Most Outstanding Newcomer.  Shaw scored in four of the team's eight competitions.  He was the Eagles' No. 4 runner in the Furman Classic and Charlotte Invitational, and their final scorer at the UAA Championships when he clocked a personal-best 8K time of 26:18.

Emory captured its second consecutive NCAA South/Southeast Regional title and advanced to nationals for the third straight season.
