The Emory University men's and women's country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 31) when they compete in the 29th Annual University Athletic Association Cross Country Championships.  The competition will be held at Franklin Park in Boston.  The women's 6K race begins at 11:00 am, and will be followed by the men's 8k competition at noon.

Both races will feature some of the top talent in the Division III ranks with six women’s programs and three men’s teams garnering recognition in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 35 Poll.  On the women’s side, the Eagles hold down the No. 14 spot nationally while other ranked programs include No. 5 and defending league champ Washington University, No. 10 Chicago, No. 21 Brandeis, No. 25 Rochester and No. 35 Carnegie Mellon.   Senior Elise Viox has been the Eagles’ top performer in all five meets to date and is coming off a 34th-place finish out of 414 runners at the AAE Invitational in Winneconne, Wisconsin on Oct. 17.  Emory finished third in last year’s UAA Championships.

The three league men’s squads in the top 35 include No. 16 and five-time defending conference champ Wash U, No. 21 New York University and No. 22 Carnegie Mellon.  Senior Lukas Mees has been the stalwart of the Emory program this fall, ranking as its top runner in all five competitions. In his most recent outing, Mees turned in a personal-best 8K time of 25:21 at the AAE Invitational.  Emory posted its second-consecutive fifth-place finish in last season’s UAA Championships.
