The Emory men’s and women’s cross country teams came through with solid outings on Friday at the Charlotte Invitational.  The competition was held at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, NC.

The 32nd-ranked men’s side finished runner-up out of 11 teams, registering 56 points, second only to host and Division I member Charlotte’s total of 27 points.  SCAD Savannah was third with 83 points while Milligan (124 pts.) and the College of Charleston (125 pts.) were fourth and fifth, respectively.  After establishing a personal best in the team’s previous competition at the Furman Classic (Sept. 12), senior Lukas Mees raced to another career-best 8K time at the Charlotte Invitational, leading all of the field’s 107 runners with a time of 25:25.  Junior Grant Murphy was the next Eagle to cross the finish line with his effort of 26:03 ranking eighth overall.  Sophomore Michael Sisario ranked third among the Emory pack and 13th overall, clocking a personal-best 26:26.  Junior Jake Schlessinger recorded his best 8K outing during his Emory career, finishing 20th overall with a time of 26:43.  Rounding out the team’s scorers was freshman Bennett Shaw at 26:46, placing him 21st.

The No. 26-ranked women accumulated 72 points and trailed NCAA Division I members Davidson (44 pts.), Charlotte (48 pts.) and College of Charleston (72 pts.).  Senior Elise Viox spearheaded the team’s showing with a 6K time of 22:56 that placed 11th out of 107 entries.  Sophomore Gabrielle Stravach was second on the squad and 18th overall, coming through with a mark of 23:19.  Junior Mia Eisenhandler was third among the Eagle contingent and 21st in the field after compiling a 23:29.  Sophomore Megan Waples turned in a personal-best performance of 23:32 that slotted her 24th, and rounding out the team’s scorers was sophomore Grace Pixler (23:34, 27th place).

Both teams return to action next Saturday (Oct. 3) when they compete at the JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
