Emory University seniors Lukas Mees (Marion, IA) and Elise Viox (St. Louis, MO) have been named by the University Athletic Association as Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Athletes of the Week following their performances the Charlotte Invitational.  It is the second time this season and third in his career that Mees has been chosen for the award while it is Viox’s initial honor.

After recording a personal best in the team's previous competition at the Furman Classic, Mees came through with another career-best 8K mark at the Invitational.  He led all 107 individual entries and helped the No. 32-ranked men's team to a second-place finish out of 11 squads by covering the course in a time 25:25, bettering his top performance of 25:30.   Mees used a late kick in securing first place, with Tom Nobles of Charlotte finishing runner-up in a time of 25:27.

Viox helped the No. 26-ranked Emory women's contingent to a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams at the Invitational, spearheading the team’s showing with a 6K time of 22:56 that placed 11th out of 107 entries.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they compete at the JSU Foothills Invitational in Oxford, Alabama.
