Women's Cross Country Wins Berry Invitational; Men Finish Second

The Emory cross country team participated in two meets on Saturday, with a set of runners heading to Berry College to participate in the Berry Invitational. The Eagles return with a first-place finish from the women and a second-place finish from the men. The women had an average time of 24:51 in the 6k and the men had an average time of 26:31 in the 8k.

The women were led by senior Lily Taylor, who finished seventh with a time of 24:35.5. The Eagles rounded out the top-10, having the eighth, ninth and tenth overall finisher as well with freshman Annabelle Tanner finishing in 24:38.8, junior Michelle Mittaz finishing in 24:40.4, and freshman Emma Flowers turning in a time of 24:46.0 close behind Taylor.

Seniors Julia Danko finished 17th in 25:38.2 and Lucy Hansen finished 19th in 25:45.1 to help boost the Eagles to their first-place finish.

The men turned in a solid effort, with junior Marcus Cheema turning in a team-best time of 26:15.5, good for seventh overall. Sophomore Nikhil Makker also had a top-10 finish, coming in eighth less than a second behind Cheema at 26:16.2.

The Eagles' score was rounded out by junior Grant Thompson in 14th in 26:37.2, sophomore Matthew McClure in 15th in 26:41.8, and freshman Hiromu Sakuma in 19th finishing in 16:47.7.

The Eagles will be back on the course on Saturday, October 14 with two meets. Some will head to the Rowan Border Battle, while others will go to Spartanburg for the Upstate Invitational.
