Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Receive At-Large Bids to NCAA National Championship Meet

After a strong showing at the NCAA South Regionals this past weekend, the Emory men's and women's cross country teams will be heading to the NCAA National Championships this upcoming weekend. After the men and women finished third and second at the regional, respectively, the Eagles received at-large bids to the event, as announced on Sunday.

The two teams will now travel to Newville, Pennsylvania for the national meet, being hosted at Big Spring High School's course. The meet will take place on Saturday, November 18th. The men's team will run at 11:00 AM and the women's team will run at 12:00 PM.

This marks the 18th consecutive appearance and 33rd appearance overall at the NCAA National Championships for the women's team, and the 10th consecutive for the men and 26th time in program history.

The women are led by graduate student Brigid Hanley, who turned in a dazzling second place finish at the NCAA South Regional this past weekend. Also finishing in the top-five and looking to carry the momentum over in the National Championship meet were junior Liesl Scherrer, who finished fourth, and freshman Elizabeth Csikai, who finished third. Also earning All-Region honors for the women and looking to build upon their success at Nationals were junior Madison Tiaffay, junior Natalie Sandlow, and freshman Cameron Gupta.

Leading the way for the men has been freshman Kirin Karver this season. The rookie has been incredibly consistent for the Eagles, bringing home his first All-Region award this past weekend. Senior Scott Masterson has had a series of impressive performances the past few weeks, finishing first in the regional and UAA Championship meets.

Junior Marcus Cheema, freshman Olin Gilster, junior David Evans, and junior Johnathan Orelowitz also secured All-Region honors and hope to keep it rolling this upcoming weekend.
