Men’s Cross Country Finishes 22nd Overall at NCAA National Championships

The Emory men's cross country teams traveled to Newville, Pennsylvania on Saturday to participate in the NCAA National Championship Meet at Big Spring High School. After securing an at-large bid to the event, the men finished 22nd overall.

Leading the way for the men was junior Marcus Cheema, who finished 71st out of 294 entries with a time of 25:31.5. This is the first time that Cheema was the first Eagle to cross the finish line this season. Cheema finished eighth at the NCAA South Regional last weekend and carried over the momentum into his first career appearance at the NCAA National Championships.

Rounding out his senior season finishing in 147th overall was senior Tristan Olpin, clocking in at 25:59.4. The senior improved his time from the regional meet by nearly 30 seconds.

Finishing off the times for the Eagles were junior Scott Masterson in 157th with a time of 26:03.8, junior David Evans in 161st with a time of 26:06.7, freshman Kirin Karver in 165th with a time of 26:08.7, freshman Olin Gilster in 192nd with a time of 26:15.8, and junior Jonathan Orelowitz in 248th with a time of 26:40.6.

The men's team has finished in the top-25 at the national meet under Head Coach Linh Nguyen.
