Emory Softball Faces Busy Stretch

The Emory softball team continues its season with three doubleheaders on tap this week.  On Wednesday (Apr. 7), the Eagles take on city foe Agnes Scott College with action at Oakhurst Park starting at 5:30 p.m.  On Saturday, Emory returns home to battle the Vikings of Berry College starting at noon.  Emory will close out the weekend with two games at Reinhardt College starting at 2:00 p.m.

THE RECORDS – Emory starts the week with an overall record of 17-9.  In their most recent action, the Eagles captured both games of a twinbill against Covenant College on Saturday, posting a 4-1 decision in the opener and a 3-1 triumph in the finale. Emory has won eight of its last nine games.

Agnes Scott stands 5-15 after taking both games of a double dip against Wesleyan College over the weekend.

Berry College will take an overall record of 15-13 into a Wednesday doubleheader at Piedmont.  In their last outing, the Vikings swept Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Mar. 30.

Reinhardt College checks in with a 27-8 won-lost slate and will take on Tennessee Wesleyan and Virginia Intermont College before meeting Emory.

SERIES RECORDS – Emory has won all 21 meetings against Agnes Scott.  Wednesday’s games will mark the first contests between the schools since 2007.

Emory and Berry met for the first time earlier this season (Mar. 27) with each team winning a game of a twinbill.  After the Vikings notched a 2-0 win in the opener, the Eagles responded with a six-inning, 9-0 win in the finale.

Reinhardt holds a 2-0 edge in the series with Emory after registering 3-2 and 2-1 victories last season at Cooper Field.

THE COACHES --  Emory is led by 12th-year head coach Penny Siqueiros (Florida State, 1992).  The only coach in the history of the program, Siqueiros has a career mark of  362-126 that includes three softball World Series appearances, three NCAA regional championships, eight NCAA tournament berths and four conference titles.

Shawn Bowers (Siena College, 1997) is in his second year in calling the shots at Agnes Scott.  Prior to his current post, he served as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for four seasons.

Cori Thiermann is the head coach of Berry College.
