Second Game Rally Gives Emory Softball Sweep Of Doubleheader vs. LaGrange

Second Game Rally Gives Emory Softball Sweep Of Doubleheader vs. LaGrange

Emory freshman Ellyn Kocoloski’s two-out double in the seventh inning scored pinch runner Brittany Boeshore and gave the Eagles a 4-3 come-from-behind win over LaGrange College Friday afternoon and a sweep of a doubleheader.  Emory won the first game by an 8-3 margin.  With the two victories, the Eagles increased their overall record to 23-13 while the Panthers slipped to 16-14.

Emory faced a 3-0 deficit after the first inning of the nightcap when a two-out bases-loaded double by Kristen Woodard accounted for all the LaGrange runs.  The Eagles got a pair of runs back in their half of the third frame when senior Caitlin Fitzgerald socked a double that scored Cassie Walsh and pinch runner Stephanie Horn.  Emory knotted the contest an inning later when freshman Megan Fouse delivered a run-producing triple, her first three-bagger of the year.  Fouse ended the game with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate.  Sophomore pitcher Bridget Holloway earned the win, tossing 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief that saw her surrender just two hits.

In the opener, Walsh, Fitzgerald and freshman Brittany Boeshore all came through with a pair of hits with Boeshore registering a pair of doubles and two RBIs.  Walsh’s two safeties upped her career mark to 220, tying for the top spot on the school’s all-time list.  Emory scored four times in the second and added three more runs in the third inning which proved to be more than enough for Holloway, who tossed a complete game, giving up six hits and fanning two.

Emory returns to Cooper Field on Saturday (Apr. 17) where it will play a pair of exhibition games against Georgia Perimeter College starting at noon.  Between games, the Eagles will conduct Senior Day with the program recognizing the contributions of Cassie Walsh, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Jenna Lamoreaux and Marion Holland.
