Emory Softball Places Three On All-UAA Tournament Team

Emory Softball Places Three On All-UAA Tournament Team

Sophomores Jessica Thomas and Bridget Holloway, along with freshman Ellyn Kocoloski were among the 11 players selected to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament Team, based on their performance during the conference tournament, Mar. 9-14.  Kocoloski was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after sparking the Eagles to a 6-2 record and the program’s first league title since 2003.

Kocoloski, the Eagles’ first baseman, hit a UAA-leading .577 with a conference-best 15 hits in 26 plate appearances.  She tied for third among UAA players with eight RBIs and her 24 total bases ranked second on the league ladder.  Five of her 15 safeties were extra-base hits including three doubles and two home runs.  She hit safely in seven of the eight contests and posted six mult-hit performances.  She went 3-for-3 with two round trippers and 4 RBIs in an 8-0 win over Case Western Reserve and turned in another 3-for-3 outing with a pair of RBIs in a 3-1 win over Brandeis.

Thomas was part of a strong offensive attack and chalked up an impressive .423 average with 11 hits in 26 trips to the plate.  The left fielder rapped out hits in seven games and came through with three outings of two or more safeties.  She enjoyed a big game against Rochester on the final day of tournament, going 3-for-3 at the plate, including a home run, and scoring two runs.  It marks the second straight season that she earned an all-tournament nod.

Holloway made her presence felt on the mound, appearing in six games and completing all four of her starts.  She finished with a 3-2 record to along with an ERA of 2.26, hurling 31 innings and striking out 25 while not surrendering any walks.  She threw a pair of shutouts during the UAA Tournament including a four-hit whitewash against Washington University in a 5-0 victory.

It is the second season that the UAA will name both an all-tournament team and an All-UAA team at the end of the season.  This is in contrast to past years, where the UAA named a first and second team, in addition to a conference most valuable player and rookie of the year, based solely on the results of the conference tournament.

Emory returns to action on Thursday (Mar. 25) when it plays a doubleheader at LaGrange College starting at 5:00 p.m.
