The Emory University softball team won its second straight game at
the University Athletic Association Tournament on Wednesday
morning, defeating No. 6-ranked Washington University. The
Eagles won their fifth straight game and upped their overall record
to 8-6 (2-0 UAA) following a 5-0 decision over the Bears who
slipped to 7-2 overall (1-2 UAA)
Sophomore pitcher Bridget Holloway kept the Wash U. bats in check,
hurling all seven innings and allowing just four hits while
striking out three.
Emory slapped out 10 hits with senior Cassie Walsh, sophomore
Jessica Boni and freshmen Ellen Kocoloski and Dan Goodenough all
registering two safeties.
The Eagles scored their first run in the third inning with senior
Caitlin Fitzgerald delivering a two-out single that scored
Walsh. The Eagles then pushed across three runs after the
first two batters were retired to give them a 4-0 advantage.
A double by Goodenough and single by junior Nicole Perez were key
blows in the frame. Emory then closed out the game’s
scoring in its half of the fifth when Kocoloski socked a double
that scored pinch runner Stephanie Horn.
Emory continues UAA Tournament play with a Wednesday afternoon
battle against Rochester.
