Emory Secures Doubleheader Sweep vs. LaGrange With 4-3 Second-Game Win

Emory senior Nikki Perez collected two hits and two RBIs, including the game winner, in keying the Eagles to an eight-inning, 4-3 decision over the LaGrange in the second game and a sweep of a doubleheader.  The victory was Emory’s 13th straight and raised its overall record to 40-2-1 while the Panthers slipped to 20-17.

Emory totaled with 11 hits including three by freshman Catherine Norman.  Sophomore Dana Goodenough scored three times including the deciding score in the eighth inning.

Emory scored its first run in the second when Perez’s two-out single scored Goodenough.  The Panthers answered that with a marker of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Eagles reclaimed the lead in the third when senior Brittany Boeshore led off the inning with a double before scoring later when junior Jessica Boni socked a two-out two-bagger.

After LaGrange battled back to knot the affair in the fifth inning, Emory jumped to a 3-2 advantage in its half of the sixth when a LaGrange error, a single by Sophia Tarte and a walk to Lauren Gorodetsky loaded the bases with one out.  Claire Bailey drove in that run with a sacrifice fly.  As was the case in the first game, LaGrange tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when a single by Megan Wing scored Katie Ison.  However, senior outfielder Brittany Boeshore threw out Courtney Beshel at the plate, forcing the extra inning.

Using the tie-breaking rule, Goodenough was placed on second and then moved to third on a sacrifice by Tarte, setting the stage for the game-winning hit by Perez.

Emory will wait to hear about the NCAA Tournament with those selections being announced May 9.
