Michele Smith, a two-time softball gold medalist, stopped by the
Emory team’s practice on Thursday, Apr. 7, and shared some of
her insight and wisdom to the Eagles.
Smith was a key member of the pitching staff and helped the USA
softball team to the gold medal at the 1996 (Atlanta) and 2000
Olympics (Sydney), posting a 2-0 record in circle in 1996 before
compiling an ERA of 0.00 over 27 2/3 innings in 2000. A
two-time All-American while at Oklahoma State, she played
professionally in Japan for 16 years.
The Emory team obviously paid attention to what Michele had to say
as the Eagles posted a doubleheader sweep of LaGrange on Friday
before earning a pair of wins against Rhodes followed by a victory
over Spleman College on Saturday.
Emory, 32-2-1 on the year and ranked No. 2 nationally among
Division III teams, returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 16) when it
plays a doubleheader at Berry.
