No. 2 Emory Softball Hits The Road For Saturday Doubleheader at Maryville

The No. 2-ranked Emory softball team, winners of its last six games, hits the field once again on Saturday (Apr. 21) when it plays a doubleheader at Maryville College.  The twinbill against the Scots will be the final road games of the regular season for the Eagles.

The Eagles stand 27-3 overall and are coming off a pair of victories over Agnes Scott this past Monday, topping the Scotties by a 3-0 margin in the first game before posting an 8-0 victory in six innings in the nightcap.  Senior Bridget Holloway and sophomore Lena Brottman turned in a pair of complete-game efforts in the circle for Emory with each hurler surrendering just a pair of hits. Holloway's effort allowed her to boost her season mark to 14-1 while Brottman improved her mark to 7-0.

The Scots host Emory with an overall record of 11-19.  MC snapped a five-game losing streak on Wednesday when it claimed a 10-5 verdict over Covenant College in the second contest of a doubleheader.  Leading the Scots in hitting is freshman Hannah Youngde who has compiled a .422 average with 38 hits in 90 plate appearances.

EMORY NOTES

** During its six-game winning streak, Emory has outscored the opposition by a 40-5 margin.
** The Eagles have shutout their last four opponents, registering a 26-0 scoring advantage in that stretch.

** Enter Saturday's action, Emory posts a team batting average of .346, good for the No. 2 spot among UAA teams.  In this week's NCAA statistics that were released on Monday, the Eagles ranked 21st nationally in batting average.

** Sophomore centerfielder Lauren Gorodetsky came through with her first career homer when she socked a two-run inside-the-park blow against Agnes Scott in the opening game of the doubleheader.

** In just her sixth plate appearance of the season, freshman Moira Sullivan delivered her first round tripper when she hit a three-run homer in the second contest against ASC.

** Sophomore Sophia Tarte continues the lead the squad in hitting with her .403 average (31-of-77)  good for eighth place among UAA players.  Tarte has seven multi-hit games to her credit and has driven in two or more runs on seven occasions.

** Sophomore Claire Bailey currently has team-high 10-game hitting streak.  During that stretch, Bailey is hitting at a .375 clip (12-of-32) and has both scored and driven in six runs. 

** Emory has hit 22 homers this year, the third-highest seasonal mark in school annals, while opponents have countered with three.

** Over 95 2/3 innings of work, Holloway has fanned 63 while issuing just nine walks.  At the start of the week, Holloway was 13th among all D-III pitchers in allowing the fewest walks per seven innings.

** Holloway's win over Agnes Scott on Monday represented her 57th career victory, third all-time at Emory.  She is one triumph shy of tying Christine O'Brien (2002-05) for the No. 2 spot on that list.

** Sophomore Megan Light leads the club with 11 multi-hit games and has posted a team-best 11 contests of knocking in two or more runs. 

** Senior Jessica Thomas has a team-high 13 two-base hits this year, tied for seventh on the Eagles' season ladder, and her 50 career doubles is third on the school's career chart, just one shy of tying Elizabeth Hampson (2001-04) for second.

** Thomas is making a run at becoming the school's all-time leader in RBIs with her total of 149 good for the No. 3 spot.  She is just six ribbies shy of tying Melissa Roberts (2000-03) and Hampson for the top spot.
