Emory Softball Season Comes To A Close At Newport News Regional

The Emory softball team saw its 2012 season come to an end on Saturday (May 12) when it dropped a 2-0 decision to Salisbury University at the Newport News, VA, Regional.  The setback was the Eagles' second in the double-elimination event and closed out the squad's record at 34-5.

Emory mustered only three hits against the Sea Gulls' pitching duo of Rachel Johnson and Erika Brittingham while Salisbury scored both of its runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Brittingham picked up the victory, her 22nd in 26 decisions while the Eagles' senior hurler Bridget Holloway was saddled with the setback, closing out her season at 18-2.

Collecting Emory's hits were freshman Micah Scharff, sophomore Lauren Gorodetsky and senior Jessica Thomas.  It marked the first time since April 11, 2010, that the Eagles had been shutout.

Saturday's defeat marked the end of the collegiate careers of Holloway, Thomas, Jessica Boni and Jaclyn Jacobi.   The team's 34 victories represented the 10th time in the 14-year history of the program that Emory reached or surpassed the 30-win plateau.
