Emory Softball Rolls To Doubleheader Sweep Over DePauw -- Runs Record to 16-0

Megan Light Socks A Three-Run Homer In 15-5 Win Over DePauw

The Emory softball team broke out the long ball on Sunday as the Eagles posted a doubleheader sweep over DePauw University.  Emory recorded a 6-0 victory in the opener before bashing its way to 15-5 triumph in five innings.  With the two wins, Emory raised its overall record to 16-0 while DePauw slipped to 3-5.

Senior Megan Light clubbed two homers in the nightcap, finishing with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate that included five RBIs and four runs scored.  Light's second round tripper of the game was a three-run shot in the fifth that closed out the contest.  Her initial blast was a two-run effort that capped a four-run third inning that put the Eagles up by a 12-1 count.  Sophomore Hannah Sendel accounted for the squad's first homer of the contest, a grand slam in the bottom of the first that highlighted a seven-run uprising.  Senior left fielder Ally Kersthold collected three hits and crossed the plate on three occasions while sophomore catcher Melody Carter also hit safely three times. Freshman pitcher Brittany File raised her record to 5-0, hurling all five innings and striking out six.

Senior Amanda Kardys kept the DePauw bats in check in the opener, going the distance in upping her won-lost ledger to 10-0.  Kardys surrendered just two hits and fanned five in running her streak of not allowing a run to 18 innings.  Emory accounted for all of the game's scoring with a six-run outburst in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by freshman third baseman Tara Fallahee. Seniors Claire Bailey and Lauren Gordodetsky each recorded a pair of safeties in keying the squad's nine-hit attack.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday (Mar. 8) when they host Agnes Scott (noon) and Spalding University (2:00 pm).
