Emory Softball Drops Saturday Opener To Brandeis -- Can Tie For UAA Title With Win Over Case

The Emory softball team opened the final day of the University Athletic Association Tournament with a loss to Brandeis University.  The Eagles saw their overall record slip to 24-3, 4-3 in the league after dropping a wild 12-11 decision the Judges.

Emory jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with senior Megan Light blasting a two-run homer, her fifth round tripper of the year.  However, the Judges scored 10 unanswered runs in bolting to a 10-2 lead after four innings.   The Eagles got back into the game after sophomore Hannah Sendel delivered a grand slam, her first of two homers on the day, in the top of the fifth.

Emory took the lead following a five-run fifth frame, which started when sophomore Alyssa Pollard's double pushed across junior Micah Scharff who opened the inning with a two-base hit.  Pollard eventually crossed the plate as a result of a balk.  With freshman Amy Wray and Light on base, Sendel came through with another homer, her eight of the year, to give the Eagles a 11-10 advantage.

A bases-loaded walk in the sixth allowed BU to knot the score, and the Judges came away with the victory when Danielle Novotny delivered a walk-off double that scored pinch runner Leah Shapiro.

Emory closes out the UAA Tournament with a game against Case Western.  An Emory win would allow the Eagles to co-tie for the conference crown.
